Yesterday I had the privilege of teaching the young girls at our homeschool group.  We have been working through Jackie and Dede Kendall’s book, Lady in Waiting for Little Girls.  This entire book has been beautiful!  Its purpose is to draw our daughters into a closer relationship with the Lord within the frame work of the mother daughter relationship.  Oh the joy I’ve had teaching these subjects on obedience, diligence, faith, virtue, devotion, security, contentment, and patience!  But yesterday something special happened as we sat around the table talking about devotion and security.  The lesson jumped out of the book into everyday life and touched my heart with a truth I never saw coming.

I asked the girls what it means to be devoted to God.  One of them said, “Spending time with him.”  True.

So I asked the girls if they had been diligent in setting aside time every day to spend reading God’s love letter to us, the Bible.  As you can imagine I got a mixed response.  But I loved their honesty.  One spent 15 minutes a day being devoted, others said no, and still others said things like “I wanted to, but I forgot.”  My mom’s heart kicked in at about that point and I asked the girls if they brush their teeth every day?  Boy, I got some strange looks then!  But again they were honest.  Most everyone brushes their teeth everyday and most twice a day.  That’s good!  As mom’s we’re responsible for training our children to brush and floss their teeth every day.  As mom’s we would never dream of allowing our children to go days without brushing their teeth!  Seriously, after a few days of neglecting their teeth we start to reap the consequences.

Imagine, your daughter or son climbing onto your lap for snuggles or coming in close for a bed time hug and kiss and what do you get but a face full of fowl smelling breath!  Suppose you didn’t take notice and over time your precious child begins to complain about a tooth hurting, but you just dole out some children’s pain killer.  It will be fine.  Time continues to pass and now the child is in real pain as the little cavity has grown into an infection that has spread into the nerves and tissue around the tooth.  Do you continue to leave it untreated or do you take care of it?  I don’t know any parent who would leave their child in pain like this!

Here is the correlation, every day, twice a day, I remind my daughters to brush, floss and use a mouth wash.  I talk to them about the importance of taking care of their teeth, because after the permanent ones come in, well, they’re permanent.  We want to keep them healthy!  And yet, I have to confess, I don’t remind my daughters to read the Bible every day.  Now I homeschool so God’s word is woven into the context of our studies and time together, but I honestly don’t push them to spend time in the Bible daily.  What am I thinking?!?  I’m having them take care of their teeth, but not their heart?  To keep my daughters safe in this world, I have to ensure they know how to be devoted, otherwise, as soon as they leave my nest they have no foundation, but can easily be mislead into the world!

If we’re not filling our hearts and minds with what the word says then you can bet the world is filling our hearts and minds with darkness.  That’s what happens to a heart left without devotion.  Slowly, so that we don’t notice it’s happening our heart gets filled up with things like depression, unforgiveness, anger, frustration, and bitterness.  Those little bits and pieces we should have been flossing out and brushing away have grown into an infection that is spreading throughout our body.

Come on mommies, we have to nurture our children’s hearts of devotion the same way we nurture their habit of taking care of their teeth!!  Daily!  Then, once their hearts are completely devoted to their Savior they will live secure.  Secure in the knowledge of a loving heavenly Father who’s plans for them are good.
Jeremiah 29:11 “I know the plans I have for you,” announces the Lord.  “I want you to enjoy success.  I do not plan to harm you.  I will give you hope for the years to come.”

Who’s promises are steadfast!
Psalm 37:3-7
“Trust in the Lord and do good, dwell in the land and enjoy safe pasture.  Delight yourself in the Lord and he will give you the desires of you heart.  Commit your way to the Lord; trust in him and he will do this:  He will make your righteousness shine like the dawn, the justice of your cause like the noonday sun.  Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for him.”

From this day forward, I am committed to encouraging my daughter’s hearts of devotion.  Just as I remind them to brush their teeth, I will remind them to spend time daily reading God’s love letter to them!  Won’t you join me?

Big Changes On the Horizon!

It’s a New Year and with the New Year come exciting developments for iFit Gourmet!

We recently discovered the name, iFit Gourmet, was confusingly similar to that of another company and brand.  How many of you know it’s NOT a good idea to be “confusingly similar” to anything!  We have worked hard to develop a unique product and blog.  We don’t want all that hard work to go down the drain!

God wants His ideas to be set apart for His purposes.  Let me explain.  The Lord does not want those He loves and who love Him to look like or do what the world is doing.  This is confusing.  The Bible tells us in 1 Corinthians 14:33 “For God is not the author of confusion, but of peace…”  The Bible also tells us in Mathew 5:13-16

“You are the salt of the earth.  But suppose the salt loses its saltiness.  How can it be made salty again?  It will be thrown out.  People will walk all over it.  You are the light of the world.  A city on a hill can’t be hidden.  Also, people do not light a lamp and put it under a bowl.  Instead, they put it on its stand.  Then it gives light to everyone in the house.  In the same way, let your light shine in front of others.  Then they will see the good things you do.  And they will praise your Father who is in heaven.”

My hearts desire, for our products and this website is that they will be a light shining on a hill for all to see that my Father in heaven will be glorified!  This won’t happen if we are too similar to other products and companies.

The biggest and best development for 2011, we are changing our name!  Effective immediately, we are releasing the iFit Gourmet name.  The new name?  Drum roll please… Annyssa.

The bad news…  There really isn’t any.  There’s just a lot of work to do!!  In the coming weeks we will transition this site to our new domain name,  I will keep you informed all along the way about our progress!  2011 will be an exciting year!  A year of transition to the new and better!!

In Christ,

That’s right a hot dog.  I don’t know if I should admit that I actually enjoy a good hot dog, but nonetheless there it is… I like a good hot dog.  There is no better time to eat a hot dog than at a baseball game.  The problem is finding out what is in the hot dog.  99 percent of the hot dogs out there probably shouldn’t be eaten, and I won’t be partaking, thank you very much! On the cusp of the New Year I sit and ponder.  This isn’t just one of your run-of-the-mill New Years, this is the beginning of a new decade!  There is always so much potential for new things as we start a new year.  We crave new challenges, give ourselves new goals, and have the courage to try new things.  But it seems to me a new decade is truly an amazing opportunity to reflect back on the good and bad of the previous “season” of our life and look forward with new hope for all that is in store!  A decade is a long time.  Who will we become in the next 10 years?  Is this the decade to make a difference in the world and in the very lives around us?  A new decade has incredible potential!

Proverbs 3:5-6 (NIV)

5 Trust in the LORD with all your heart
and lean not on your own understanding;

6 in all your ways acknowledge him,
and he will make your paths straight.

Trust and Obey

Posted by: Kristina Evans | Comments (0)

There is a connection between obedience and trust.  If you trust the Lord you are supernaturally empowered by the Holy Spirit to be obedient to walk out whatever the Lord has asked you to do.  But our journey with the Lord is sometimes a picture of us running on a hamster wheel.  We get on the wheel, we begin to doubt what the Lord has told us and then we are not obedient.  When we are not obedient we are on the wrong path and none of the words we have heard about God, or from God, seem true and then we lose our trust in Him.  It’s a self-perpetuating cycle without trust you can’t be obedient and without obedience you can’t have trust. Welcome to Living in Balance

I guess you would say I like to encourage people. It’s one of the things I do best. I once heard people can actually have a ministry of encouragement and even though I’m not in the “ministry,” encouraging the people around me has always been important. I hope this blog will be an encouragement to you. Read More→
